The story revolves around Jason, a shy teenager who finds solace in a puppet named Tyrone, which he creates for a church puppet ministry. However, as Jason struggles with personal turmoil and the loss of his father, Tyrone begins to take on a life of his own, revealing Jason's repressed anger and desires.
This was my first introduction project to the world of puppetry for a design class during my time at UNA. We were tasked to focus on at least three design elements and to make a puppet that we deemed worthy to be a part of the puppet club in Hand to God.
The design elements I focused on were shape, texture, and color. I knew I wanted a structured head rather than the arch of the hand that traditionally sock puppets have so that it could be more defined as it's own "individual" character like Tyrone. Another point I wanted to keep in mind and help showcase is the fact that this is a church ministry so all the supplies that the teens are picking from are probably random supplies and not so much "professionally" thought out.

I am a honor society member of UNA's TEK chapter which is a technical fraternity committed to professional development. In 2024, we implemented a fun project of student lead classes where a student could teach fellow members about something they were passionate about.
I decided to teach a fun, 20-minute class about puppetry! The goal was to teach some history behind puppetry, the different styles, examples, networks and organizations, and at the end everyone would be able to create their own puppet using the supplies provided. I based the supplies off of what I used to create the sock puppet from my design class and other articles I found during my research.
Below is the slideshow used for the class!
