The Directing II Class, instructed and mentored by Abigail Dillard, was tasked with directing a play that could be found in the public domain. We, Laura Leigh, Star, and I, all came to the agreement that we each should direct a different act of the well-known play Pride and Prejudice.
Our twist? Adapt the play into three acts and put each of them in a different timeline.
Being a student-led production instead of the semester's MainStage production, we worked with little to no budget. Our team consisted of primarily student volunteers, with Abigail Dillard being our mentor and Ethan Franks being our technical director. This production consisted of 10 student actors along with five student designers.
First Act: We are introduced to the Bennet family, particularly Mrs. Bennet's obsession with finding suitable husbands for her daughters. The arrival of the eligible bachelor, Mr. Bingley, seems to spark a lot of interest, specifically with Mrs. Bennet, as she's eager to see him married to her eldest, Jane. As the act continues, it sets the stage for the developing relationships, including Elizabeth Bennet, the second oldest, and Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley's best friend.
